GIAN - A BRAVE HEART
We got to know Gian from Batam, through 5miles Ltd, a non-profit organisation. He was 10 year old then when he was diagnosed with a congenital defect called Pulmonary Atresia. It meant he was missing a vital blood vessel that carried blood to his lungs. This caused Gian to pant after climbing just 6 to 7 steps up the stairs.
We found him a kind and compassionate paediatric cardiologist in Singapore who journeyed with him. After about a year of consultations and a series of tests, Gian finally had a heart surgery done in a hospital in Jakarta. He returned to Singapore for regular check ups with the cardiologist.
He has since made a quick recovery and is back in school and leading an active and normal life.
